Vishon Busch - Room 6 - Year 1

Welcome to Room 6’s web page, 2010. There are a number of exciting activities and learning experiences we have planned for the year and I am sure that everyone will enjoy and participate in all these activities.

We are very focussed on literacy areas and our aim is to get the children reading at the green level by the age of six. The children read to the teacher, at their instructional level, at school, which they will take home for parents to listen to and assist if required. Please record this into their reading log books.

Our writing focus for the year is on recount and narrative writing and we will also be learning the basic strategies for writing words and sentences.

Our Integrated topic for the term is ‘loking back to look forward'. This will require some input from home as we look at the childrens' family tree. It will be interesting to see the makeup of culture of room 6 children.

In Maths, we we will be working on the number properties and learning some strategies to solve simple problems. We will also work on probability towards the end of the term.

I strongly believe that children will benefit when there is an open communication between school and home. If you have any questions or queries regarding your child, please feel free to talk to me or make an appointment before or after school. Thank you for all your support and contributions. I look forward to having a great year working with you and your child.

Vishon Busch.
