Shirley Youens - Room 4 - Year 1
Hello from Room 4.
What a busy and exciting term this has been.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed the science topic – ‘Let’s Experiment’. The topic has certainly aroused their curiosity, and they have grown in confidence asking ‘scientific questions’. We have worked together in groups to carry out the various experiments, the children are learning to be more observant, and to consider each other’s opinions.
I am sure they have told you about some of our experiments – the worm farms where the worms mixed the layers of sand and soil, giving some understanding of the importance of earthworms in our soil; the salt and sugar solutions, where the children have watched the crystals grow – or not in the case of the salt; the balloon propelled car; dropping food colouring into milk, to see the patterns and wonder how they were formed and so on. There are so many simple experiments you can do with children, that cause them to think and wonder. You may find some to do together during the holidays. If you do, we would love to hear about them.
The holidays are very timely, as many children have had bad coughs, which have gone to their chests. I am sure with a good rest, that they will come back after the holidays energised and ready to face the challenges of Term 3.
Best Wishes for some lovely family time in the next 2 weeks from us all in Room 4.
