Term 2 Week 7
Room 21’s Week 7 Wrap Up
This week in Science we focused on how an ocean wave is made. We created our own waves using water, cooking oil, food colouring and a plastic bottle. In small groups, we watched, as we turned the mixture in the bottle over, the water sink to the bottom. There was a clear line between the coloured water. We then had a grand time tipping the bottle back and forth, experimenting with the kinds of waves we could make. We observed how the waves grow bigger from one end of the bottle to the other. We also observed how the water actually moves up and down – it didn’t move forward as the wave went through the water, which is what we expected to happen. So to the nitty-gritty – what did all this teach us? Well, friction between water and the wind makes a wave. They move forward without replacing any water. Ordinary ocean waves get their energy from the wind. Higher waves, of course, need more energy. Wind generated ocean waves keep on travelling after the wind stops. Longer waves travel faster than shorter one and go farther before friction makes them disappear.
In Art, we continue to work on our patterned chameleons. We have been learning how to sketch observational drawings and using these we are in the middle of producing some amazingly detailed and creatively camouflaged chameleons. A few talented artists have completed theirs, so please feel free to come in and take a look. I know you will be impressed!
In Reading, the Fruit Bursts group have been working hard to collate all the information they have been collecting on Leonardo da Vinci over the past few weeks. The Fruits Bursts have been learning how to locate and highlight important information. The interesting information they have learnt has been creatively displayed on posters to detail Leonardo da Vinci’s intriguing life. Well done Fruit Bursts. I have really enjoyed you sharing all you have learnt whilst reading this novel. I have particularly enjoyed your enthusiasm and thirst for more knowledge when learning about this historical figure. Well done for those of you who solved the online wordle last week.
It was in fact ‘Tennis Shoes’ (ten issues written in a group sounds a little like tennis shoes if you say it enough times).
So how about another one for this week...

Good luck!
Until next week,
