Term 2 Week 10
Room 21’s Week 10 Wrap Up
This week in Science we wanted to find out why diamonds are so strong. It was the best Science experiment because we actually got to it eat our final product!!! So what did we do? We built a model using toothpicks and marshmallows (yum) to represent the structure of a diamond...and then EAT IT!!!
By putting 3 toothpicks, in the shape of a triangle, into a marshmallow, so it can stand, we slowly built up an interesting shape. It was in fact a tetrahedron. Our structure may have been a bit wobbly, because the marshmallows are soft, but we could see how strong this structure would be if it was hard. The marshmallows are like carbon atoms and the toothpicks are like the bonds between the atoms. Diamonds are pure carbon crystals. Each carbon atom is held tightly by four bonds to other carbon atoms nearby.
Over the last few weeks in Maths, we have been learning how to carry out a statistical investigation. Asking ‘good’ questions that give us interesting data for a purpose has been a real focus. On Thursday we chose our partner to carry out the investigation with and decided on an interesting question. I am very pleased with the quality of the questions we have chosen and am really excited about what the results will show. Next week we will survey the year 6 classes and put together a presentation on our findings to share with our class.
How did you get on with last week’s online wordle? The answer was ‘Quit following Me’ (quit is after the word me). So how about another one for this week...
Come co
This could be a tricky one I think....
Good luck!
Until next week,
Keep cool til after school
