Term 1 Week 7

Room 21’s Week 7 Wrap Up

It’s been another positive learning week in Room 21.  Our camp photo collages are almost completed.  I have enjoyed the buzz this activity has created in our classroom and listening to the children reflect on their adventures and achievements at camp.  It has also been a great opportunity for the children to use their co-operative and communicative skills learnt whilst on camp, and work in a small group to achieve a specific goal.  Below are just a few photos of the children’s work.  Please pop in to see the other masterpieces anytime.

In Reading we are learning to visualise what we are reading.  The Jellybeans have just started reading Nim’s Island, a fantastic novel for visualising and one which generates quite a bit of discussion about lifestyles.  Initially this group thinks it would be pretty cool to live on an island.  I wonder will their opinion change over the duration of the book or stay the same.  The Marshmallows have started a new book this week called, ‘Sports News’, which is filled with exciting, adventurous news articles about extreme sports.  This group is learning to identify the main aspects of a news article and how to summarise the text they have just read.

Training for our Senior Athletics day is in full swing now.  This week we have been focussing on the Long Jump, the High Jump and the 400m Run.  We have some superb athletes in room 21 and I’m really looking forward to seeing them compete on Wednesday.  It is going to a most enjoyable day and everyone knows it’s all about doing your best and having fun!  Good luck everyone.  Don’t forget to wear your house colours on Wednesday and really get into the spirit of the day.

Until next week,

Keep cool til after school
