The aim of this webpage is for the GATE Literacy students to take an active part in sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for Reading and Writing with the rest of the school. They will be updating the blog with interesting book review's, as well as sharing short stories, poems, or any other writing they have done.
Marina View School takes 2 teams (8 children) from the GATE Literacy group, to participate in the Kids Lit' Quiz, which is held in July this year. They are busy reading, researching, discussing and sharing books, which might come up in the quiz. It's a fun day, filled with 100 questions all about books! It's a lot harder than you might think and the class have had to break up the reading and researching into genres, reporting back to everyone on what they have found out.
The group has also discussed what they want to produce for the writing side of GATE Literacy this year, and are still thinking about what they would like to do. Last year, the class wrote Junior Reader books. They took out children from a Year 1 class and cast them as the lead character. We had one book published last year, "Layla and the New Pet", written by Amanda Holyer. This book is now used as a class reader in the junior school. The class would love to produce something that could be used and read throughout the school, so if you have any ideas, let us know!
Hopefully you enjoy the reading the book reviews and writing that is shared by the GATE Literacy group.
