Week 5

Room 11’s Weekly Update Week 5

Week 5’s highlight was our trip to the Auckland Museum.  As part of our study of Entomology, a visit to the Museum’s Weird and Wonderful exhibition was an obvious choice!  The children had an amazing time on our trip and a huge thanks has to go out to the wonderful parents who came and helped.  Without your support we would never have been able to make this trip possible.  I am always grateful of the support MVS has from its community.  I hoped you treated yourself to an extra scoop of ice-cream last night or something special to reward you for all your hard work!  Check out the special Museum Trip webpage with a heap of cool photos from our trip. As well as visiting the insects, we enjoyed visiting the Moari and Pacific Culture exhibition, the War exhibition and the Volcanoes (the shaky house a definite highlight).  I am really looking forward to our recounts on Monday of the children’s experiences at the Museum.

Keeping with our topic theme, we have been learning some cool, fun, fast facts about wasps, grasshoppers and dragonflies this week.  Did you know that dragonflies are the fastest flying insect?  It can fly up to 30km!  Mrs Whitehead really doesn’t see any point in wasps, but she learnt this week that they do actually help by eating pests, such as flies (but their bad habit of stinging still doesn’t make her like them much!).  What can you remember learning about grasshoppers?  Maybe you can share some facts with Mum and Dad this weekend?

In ICT, we have been learning how to use the Kahootz programme with the help of Mr Gover.  Below are a few photos of the children expertly working on this programme.  Soon we will print some out and the children will be able to describe to you what they have done and what they have created.

Thanks to all the people who have brought back their chocolate money.  Just a reminder it is due back by Thursday 31st May (next Thursday).  Also, if you still want to purchase an Entertainment book you can do so up until next Thursday too.  Thanks again for all your support raising money for our school.  Your help is very much appreciated!

Well, that’s all for now.

Until then,

Stay cool ‘till after school!Mrs Whitehead J
