Welcome back for Term 3
My goodness, how the year is zooming along!
Our topic this term is “Let’s Communicate”. We have looked at how animals communicate. We have tied this in with our whales and dolphins from last term. We will be looking at how the equestrians at the Olympics communicate with their horses and how we communicate with dogs.
A dog safety lady has already been to visit us. We have learnt how to be safe around dogs and when we meet dogs we do not know. Dogs have a language and “code” of their own and we have to know what they are trying to tell us.
We will also look at other ways of communication such as facial expression, body language, sign language, Braille, signs and symbols. Fortunately for us our buddy class knows lots about NZSL and each week they are going to teach us some new sign.
In Art, we are going to be looking at Aboriginal Art from Australia, their patterns and ways of communicating through art. If you have any examples or knowledge that you would like to share with us...please let me know.
Unfortunately we no longer participate in the PMP programme as we have had to make way for the younger children who have just started school and will have greater benefits from the programme. So keep us busy with as much sporting activity as you can to help us with our fitness as well as our hand – eye – feet co-ordination and body awareness. Lots of throwing and catching even with a soft squishy ball or a balloon is great for inside winter activity.
YES, your child should have a reading book in their book bag every night! School policy is NO book bag – NO reading book as readers are now too expensive to risk having them unprotected in their school bag. Most children are really good at remembering, please help your child to develop a routine about putting their book back into their book bag to bring back to school after they have read to you each night (and filled in the reading log with smiley faces).
Later on in the term we will be going on an excursion to the North Shore Gymnastics centre to practice the skill we will be learning at school in PE. We will let you know dates for this in plenty of time as we will also be needing some parents to accompany us.
And the exciting news is...that we are having our assembly this term in Week 10. I will send home a newsletter explaining all the details, dates, the lyrics for our song and what it will involve.
Tuesdays we have Dance and Drama with Mrs Purdie, Wednesday is our Library day, Thursday we have ICT and on Friday’s we go to the Gym.
I am happy to have parent help in our class so if you would like to help with Reading, Maths, Topic or Art in small groups or individuals, or if you have a passion that you would like to share with us please let me know.
Have a great Term 3 everyone!
