Jan Patterson - Year 1 - Room 5

Hello everyone!

We are very excited to be in Term Four.
Last term was so much fun. We learned a lot about communication, and the different ways we get our messages across. We have been focussing on our Writing. We are so proud of the progress we have made in our writing books. Our favourite part of last term was our gymnastic trip. We loved the foam pit and the bus ride!

Our topic this term is called “Hamburger Heaven”.  We will be looking at how hamburgers are made, what makes them healthy, what makes them not so healthy, how they are packaged and advertised. We will even be making our very own hamburgers! We are very excited.

This term in Maths we will continue to work on addition and subtraction, number knowledge, and Geometry. Maths is one of our favourite topics in Room 5. We love number games and challenging our brains.

In Writing we will be looking at different genres. We are enjoying persuasive writing at the moment, and will start letter writing soon.

Thank you to all the parents who still read with their children at home. It makes a huge difference to their progress. We will be working on answering questions about the text, finding evidence in the text, retelling the story, looking at the beginning, middle and end sounds in unknown words, and reading on to the end of the sentence to see if we can guess the word in context.
