Term 3 Week 9
Room 21’s Week 9 Wrap Up
The Year 5-8 Talent Quest was a real highlight for us in week 9. We saw a wonderful variety of talent on show, from dancers, to singers, to instrumentalists, to comedians. Room 21 was very proud of Kylie, who was the runner-up in the year 5/6 competition with her Principal’s Office dance and also of Caitlin, who was the runner-up with her sister in the year 7/8 competition with their hip-hop dance.
In Art, we have been learning to create unique Maori patterns based on the art work of Warren Pohatu. We initially sketched a creature (gecko, dolphin, dog etc...) and then drew our creature using yellow chalk. We boldly coloured inside the chalk lines, focussing on attention to detail, creative patterning and clever colour selections. Our final step was to dye over our picture using black dye. The dye soaks into the chalk, but the crayon resists it causing a really neat effect. We have almost finished these and hope to have them up in ‘our art gallery’ (room 21) by the end of term.
How did you get on with the online wordle last week? The answer was Head in the sand’’ (as in the word head was written in the sand). No-one got this one? I thought this one was easy! Perhaps this week’s one will be easier? Don’t forget the online wordle is worth 50 points for your group and a chance to go on the raffle board!
