Term 3 Week 4
Room 21’s Week 4 Wrap Up
Week 4 was another wonderful week or learning and having adventures in room 21. In Writing, we are focussing on narratives and what aspects make up a narrative. As part of our New Zealand topic this term, we have been looking at Maori myths and legends. This week we finished off our re-tell of ‘Maui lands the North Island’, the story of how Maui discovered the North Island of Aotearoa. Our next myth was the story of ‘Kupe’s Voyage’; a tale of how Kupe crossed the ocean from Hawaiki to Aotearoa and join us to Polynesia. It was Kupe who enabled the Maori to journey across the ocean and inhabit the land of Aotearoa. We have been identifying important aspects of a narrative and how to tell a story creatively, so that next week, we can write our very own Maori myth. I’m looking forward to the creative, imaginative stories I’m sure you’ll all be able to produce.
Congratulations to Liam, Luke, Renae and Chrisma for finishing last week’s cross country race in the top six, securing a place in the year 5/6 zone cross country team, running at Woodhill on Thursday. There are a few photos below of these runners participating in last week’s year 6 cross country race. The zone race is quite a step up from the school race and we are very proud of our runners! Congratulations to Liam and Renae who finished in the top 20 and to Luke who finished in the top 30.
The Year 6 Parent Open Afternoon was a great success. Room 21 really enjoyed a ‘snapshot’ of what being in year 7/8 will be like next year. Visiting with all the Intermediate teachers was a real treat and I know the children are very excited about the wonderful opportunities ahead with this special group of teachers.
How did you get on with the online wordle last week? The answer was ‘Open Season’ (as in the word season was split in two, or open). Grace was our closest with a number of ideas, well done Grace. I love your determination and outside teh square thinking! Keep it up! So how about another one? Don’t forget the online wordle is worth 50 points for your group and a chance to go on the raffle board! This one has been the classroom wordle for about a week now. It must be a real tricky one! Maybe the Mum’s and Dad’s out there can help shed some light on it...
W, I
Good luck!
Until next week,
Keep cool til after school
