Term 3 Week 3

Room 21’s Week 3 Wrap Up

Monday started with the wonderful opportunity of watching the Kahurangi Dance group perform a number of dances from around the Polynesian Islands.  We were spirited away to Tahiti, Hawaii, Samoa, Rarotonga and of course, our very own, Aoteoroa.  The performances were outstanding and the costumes divine.  The energy of the dancers was something special to behold as well.  There are some neat photos below of the dancers.  We learnt the greetings for all the Islands we visited during the show.  See if your child can remember them!

Unfortunately Cross Country was postponed on Wednesday, due to the weather, but Room 21 made the most of it by having Art all day.  What a wonderful time for the children to really focus on their art work and show attention to detail.  Their ‘NZ birds’ scraffito piece for their calendar art is very impressive.  Well done everyone.  I must admit, it is always nice to listen to the children chatter during art too.

Congratulations to Trent and Tanis for presenting their speeches at the Year 5/6 Speech finals on Thursday.  You both worked extremely hard preparing your speeches and all of room 21 was very proud of your efforts.  We know it isn’t easy standing up and presenting your speech in front of the class, let alone in front of two syndicate groups!

Friday’s weather improved for our Cross Country and we were able to compete in our race.  I have been very impressed with every single person in room 21 and the commitment they have shown in their training over the past 3 weeks.  Everyone had their own specific goal, to finish in the top 10, the top 5 or the top 3, or even just to run the race without walking.  Congratulations to you all for putting in 100% to your training and, of course, in the race itself.  If you can, keep up your fitness levels at home.  It would be a shame to let your fitness drop when you have worked so hard to improve it.  Maybe we’ll keep to a few runs each week to keep you fit and healthy...

How did you get on with the online wordle last week?  The answer was ‘Long Weekend’ (as in the end of the word week dragged on).  Congratulations to Renae for working it out first, closely followed by a determined Grace and then Daniel.  It is so cool to see so many of the class ‘thinking outside the square’ trying to solve the wordless throughout the week.  So how about another one?  Don’t forget the online wordle is worth 50 points for your group and a chance to go on the raffle board!

SEA SON

Good luck!

Until next week,

Keep cool til after school
