Term 2 Week 8
Room 21’s Week 8 Wrap Up
This week in Science we focused on how asked the question, ‘do hot and cold water mix?’ We thought about this and we knew the water was going to move...we just didn’t know how exactly...that’s the experiment!
We filled up two baby food jars; one with hot water (and red food colouring) and one with cold water (with blue food colouring). We put a piece of card over the cold water jar and very carefully flipped it upside down on top of the hot water jar. We watched as the cold water sunk down to the bottom and the hot water rose up to the top (turning the water purple as the hot mixed with the cold). We repeated the process again, but this time had the cold water jar on the bottom and the hot water on top. When we took out the piece of card we were fascinated to see the cold water stayed on the bottom and the hot water stayed on the top – the water didn’t mix like the first time. This was because cold water is heavier than hot water. And the hot water did not have to rise because it was already on the top!
FIFA Football World Cup fever has begun in room 21. We have started a class sweepstake and the children all randomly chose a country to follow in the World Cup starting this weekend. We are also taking the opportunity to learn a bit more about our country we have chosen by completing an information poster on our country and a player from that team. What a wonderful opportunity to learn more about countries around the world – particularly the ones we didn’t even know!
Well done for those of you who solved the online wordle last week. It was in fact ‘Neon Light’ (the word knee was on top of the word light).
So how about another one for this week...
