Term 2 Week 2

Room 21’s Week 2 Wrap Up

Science is fun, exciting, engaging, loud!

Week 2’s science experiment certainly hooked us into wanting to learn about Science!  Check out the photos below of us carrying out a ‘Can air lift things?’ experiment.

We followed the scientific procedure, discussing the BIG question and what we thought of it.  We enjoyed predicting what would happen when we found out how the experiment would be carried out.  The children blew up 10 balloons and placed them, carefully, under a table.  Then, slowly, and again carefully, the children stepped onto the table one-by-one.  We were amazed to see that the balloons could hold our weight and the weight of the table.  We managed to get 12 people on the table before the balloons began popping. Once the actual experiment was completed we came together as a class and discussed our observations and the results.

The observations were really interesting; “I saw the balloons being squashed as the people got on the table”, “I felt the table going down and moving while I was on the table”, “I felt nervous getting onto the table”, “I heard people screaming when the balloons starting popping”.

In Writing this week we have been learning about Proverbs and by using the first part of a famous proverb, the children had to come up with the remainder of the proverb to make a modern day one.  The children were very excited writing their proverbs and we definitely enjoyed sharing them with each other.  Here are just a few examples...

It is always darkest before...the teacher has her coffee break.

You can lead a horse to water...but it would really prefer a coke.

Strike while...the teacher is distracted.

Where there’s smoke there’s...usually a dragon

Strike while...my sister is in the bathroom.

If you lie down with dogs you’ll get up...smelling really, really bad.

Until next week,

Keep cool til after school
