Term 1 Week 6
Room 21’s Week 6 Wrap Up
Back to reality this week after camp! It was a wonderful week reflecting on our camp. The children came up with some wonderful qualities that they gained from the Camp Carey experience. They believed camp gave them a chance to work on teamwork and co-operation. They developed a better understanding of how rewarding doing something challenging was (like feeling that buzz at the bottom of the abseiling tower). They certainly got a chance to ‘Walk the Talk’ at camp, be responsible and true to our word (like doing our group’s duties because the rest of camp was relying on us). I really enjoyed watching the children encourage others to do their best too. In Art, we began our photo collages of camp and in the initial planning stages they are looking fabulous. Check out the photos below of us planning and creating our collages.
We had Goal Setting Meetings this week and I want to thank those parents who were able to make it. I really enjoyed meeting you all and catchin up with those I already knew. We are so lucky at MVS to have such a supportive community. When the children set their goals we talked about choosing SMART goals. We discussed how goals need to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and on a Timeframe. I really think the children did well to think of goals that really applied to them, so well done guys. We’ll look at laminating these goals and sticking them on the children’s desks, so we can refer to them in class and see what steps you’re taking to achieve your goals over the year.
In Writing, this week we have been continuing our focus on Narrative Writing. Our topic this week was a ‘Message in a Bottle’. The children had to imagine being stuck on a deserted island after a shipwreck. We have been learning to use adjectives and verbs to make our writing more interesting and it is pleasing to see many of the children trying to use more interesting vocabulary. I am looking forward to everyone publishing their story next week into a class book.
In Reading, we have started Fantastic Mr Fox as our shared class novel. We are enjoying the quirkiness of the story and this week the nasty crooks of Boggis, Bunce and Bean have come up with a dasterdly plan to get Mr Fox and his family out of the hole. What, we wonder, will Mr Fox do???
Athletics day is not far away and we’re looking forward to starting training in the Long Jump, High Jump and Running this coming week.
Until next week,
Keep cool til after school
