Term three has flown by, and the new teacher Miss Alisa Southon has had a great time getting to know the students and teaching them. The students have adjusted well to all the routine changes and are enjoying being involved in the class culture!
Comment from Miss Southon: “Thank you room 23 for welcoming me into your class! I have had a fun time getting to know you all, and your varied abilities. Teaching you all has been a breeze- you are all fantastic and such well respectful young adults! I have loved marking your assignments and seeing all the hard work you have put in. Class discussions have also been a highlight for me, as we have learnt so much about each other. I hope we can continue to challenge each other to develop as individuals and learners next term!”

Topic: We’re Here! Now what? –We studied many different areas associated with where we have come from, where we are now and where we will be in the future.
We have learnt about:
· Our family histories;
· New Zealand history;
· Societal values and how they have developed in the past, present and future;
· The impacts of immigrants on New Zealand society;
· How technology has developed and predicting what changes may come;
· What an ideal society in the future will look like.
We did most of this work in a group assignment and class discussions. Highlights have been our trip to Awataha Marae in which we were welcomed to learn about the history, traditions and skills of the Maori. Our Cultural day on Thursday the 23rd will be a great
finale to celebrate the learning of term three, and our diversities.
Art: Inline with our topic theme ‘We’re here! Now what?’ we have looked at our family crests and redesigned them to fit the values, traditions, culture, religion etc that our family now holds. They look fantastic- make sure you have a look at the photos below!
Values: The value of diversity has been our focus for this term. We have learnt to celebrate the diversities in our class, this includes: learning abilities, culture, appearance, religion, values and much more! We have discussed discrimination and the negative impact it has on others lives. Our class is learning to help each other out and celebrate how unique we all are!
Next term our focus will be on creative thinking and becoming 'entrepreneurs'. In groups we will be creating our own product to sell at our market day. This will involve learning the ins and outs of owning a business (design, advertising, accounts, production etc).
